Encanto Book Tag

Hello everyone! I’m sure you’ve seen Encanto (hasn’t everyone?) but I actually hadn’t until yesterday. It lived up to my (very high) expectations and I fell in love with the show and the characters and the music and I just couldn’t stop thinking abut it so when I found this book tag based on songs from Encanto, how could I not give it a try? You can check out the original video from the person who came up with this tag here and continue reading to see the questions and my answer!

The Family Madrigal

name a book that explores multiple family generations

The Green Bone Saga by Fonda Lee

The Green Bone Saga follows three (rather four I suppose?) generations of Kauls, focusing on the middle generation primarily. I love how this book often brings in the older generations and their influences on the world in the present and on the individuals too, with us starting off where the grandfather is still alive in book 1 to seeing Hilo, Shae and Lan grow up and even have children who are the future of the clan grow to be some 20 year olds who are starting to take on their responsibilities as Kauls.

Waiting On A Miracle

what is a book you enjoyed that took longer than expected to finish?

The Jasmine Throne by Tasha Suri

I think I ended up taking a whole month to finish this book? I loved the Jasmine Throne but I thought it started off a little slow and all the POvs could make it a little confusing so I took quite some time reading it and figuring out what happens in it so that I could actually give it the attention and focus and time it deserves! I probably should reread it though before the sequel comes out since I’m already beginning to forget some of the many intricate details this book has!

Surface Pressure

name a character who has to do it all

A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson

Who describes a person who keeps her secrets close, never lets go of anything that’s mentioned and refuses to ask for help other than Pippa? This will probably make most sense to you in reference to book 3 and I won’t say much (because spoilers) but I am sure you get what I am talking about. She trusts no one (except Ravi) and has to do everything on her own to make sure it is done correctly and will do anything to fix things on her own and not have to lean on others.

We Don’t Talk About Bruno

talk about a book you haven’t talked about

Shadow of the Fox by Julie Kagawa

I feel like I almost never end up mentioning this book? Or mention it quite little? I loved this series so so much – there’s found family, enemies to lovers, slow burn romance, great friendships, the sweetest main character and great plot line. All in all, a completely amazing series which blew me away and had me crying as I finished it up! I can not recommend this book enough so please check it out!

What Else Can I Do?

name a book that you thought would be light and fluffy but hit emotionally

How Moon Fuentez Fell In Love With The Universe by Raquel Vasquez Gilliland

I went into this book just expecting a cute romcom and while it most definitely has an adorable romance, I also connected with Moon and her life and struggles in so many ways I hadn’t anticipated. Moon is truly special to me personally and seeing her go through all she does in the book and learn to overcome it and grow into herself and be herself was something else. I even ended up crying at some parts and this book just hit me so so hard in ways I hadn’t thought it would.

Dos Oruguitas

characters who make you believe in soulmates

Percy Jackson by Rick Riordan

Percy and Annabeth are the best, they are end game and well, I don’t think I really have to explain why – it all speaks for itself. Seaweed brain and wise girl? holding up the sky together? Giving up immortality for each other? Surviving tartarus together? they were made for each other and they make me believe in love.

You Deserve Each Other by Sarah Hogle

This book starts off with Naomi and Nicholas being unhappy together and Naomi willing to given and call it quits despite how nothing seemed even remotely good. The characters are messy and chaotic and you’d think they really do not belong together but as the book goes on and they reach out to each other through thr course of it and unconsciously, slowly start fixing things to finally being there for each other and falling in love again you see just how well they fit and how they are soulmates and that they really do deserve each other.

All Of You

name a book that features rebuilding relationships

The Sword of Kaigen by M L Wang

The Sword of Kaigen mainly follows Misaki, a woman with a complicated past and an even more complicated present who’s family life is fragile and her relationships feel disconnected. As war lands on her doorstep, things begin to change and she has to change herself too. With secrets from her past being revealed to trying to rebuild the community for a better future, this book features changing and shifting relationships and fixing the cracks which has appeared in them. I loved seeing the characters learn more about each other and communicate better and try harder.

Colombia, Mi Encanto

name a book that left you immersed in the culture

Cemetery Boys by Aiden Thomas

Cemetery boys takes us on a journey that is imbued with Latinx culture in in every pore! The magic is inspired from Latinx lores and they play a very important part through out the book. I loved learning more about their culture and how it resides in their food, in their festivals and celebrations and in small ways in the every day life.

The book centres the Dia de los Muertos festival – the day of the dead which is a very important festival for Latinx people and I loved being able to learn more about it and what it means to the people.

And that’s it for today! let me know what your answers to the question would’ve been and if you agree with my answers? Also, I’m not tagging anyone but if you liked the tag and want to do it, please do so I can see your answers too!

  1. There’s an Encanto book tag!?!?! How was I not aware of that, with me having watched the movie like 2384245 times? Oh well, I loved reading your answers 🙂 I haven’t read anything for a Percy Jackson book myself, but the Green Bone Saga is on my list this year and I’m super excited.

  2. Great answers! I loved Cemetery Boys too and it taught me a lot. The Jasmine Throne is on my TBR and it looks like I might have to set aside a fair amount of time and energy for it since it’s bigger than I expected! Still, I’m sure it’ll be worth it.

I’ll definitely give this tag a go at some point. I adore Encanto!
