Hey everyone! I don’t usually read any spooky books but I did read The Wicked Deep by Shea Ernshaw as a part of the Voracious Book Club and I am extremely glad I did because I ended up really enjoying it!

Welcome to the cursed town of Sparrow…
Where, two centuries ago, three sisters were sentenced to death for witchery. Stones were tied to their ankles and they were drowned in the deep waters surrounding the town.
Now, for a brief time each summer, the sisters return, stealing the bodies of three weak-hearted girls so that they may seek their revenge, luring boys into the harbor and pulling them under.
Like many locals, seventeen-year-old Penny Talbot has accepted the fate of the town. But this year, on the eve of the sisters’ return, a boy named Bo Carter arrives; unaware of the danger he has just stumbled into.
Mistrust and lies spread quickly through the salty, rain-soaked streets. The townspeople turn against one another. Penny and Bo suspect each other of hiding secrets. And death comes swiftly to those who cannot resist the call of the sisters.
But only Penny sees what others cannot. And she will be forced to choose: save Bo, or save herself.

MY VIEWS:
This book was intriguing and mesmerising and I have to say that it was very hard to put it down.
I don’t read a lot of paranormal but I’m really glad I read this one!
The book kept me on my toes for its entirety and I just couldn’t stop thinking about it. The writing was great and it made me want to continue reading it and I was honestly very disappointed when the book ended.
The plot was great – a small beach town with a paranormal history and three sisters coming back to life and drowning boys as revenge for how they had been drowned 200 years ago. From the very beginning, there is a mystery which is left unsolved and hinted to, although in different ways and you keeping asking yourself what it might be alluding.
It was quite hard to figure out until the very end when the truth is revealed, and even then I was quite surprised.
I also loved how the author kept switching from the present to when the Swan sisters were alive as it helped me gain some perspective on who they were. It also helped me sympathise with them instead of completely despising them for being the murderers that they surely were.
The MC is quite a complex yet mysterious character up till the very end as there are many things about herself that she keeps hidden. It was sort of spooky being in her head and seeing everything through her eyes because you kind of always know she is hiding a dark secret and can’t seem to figure what it is!
The romance in this novel is also great! It forms quite an integral part, especially because of the ending and I have to say that I was quite satisfied with it. It was soft and slow and often confusing but also really sweet and beautiful in the sense that I understood what they were feeling. I just loved Bo so much and learning his story and hearing everything he’d gone through broke me.
Overall, it was a great read and had an amazing spooky vibe which has me excited for halloween! Would definitely recommend!
MY RATING: 4.5 STARS

It has been few years since I buddy read The Wicked Deep. I enjoyed it but at the same time it was disappointing. I got into it thinking I’d finally get my fill of witchy book but it was mostly focused on mystery.
