Hey everyone! As I told you all before, I’m taking part in Camp NaNoWriMo this month and I’m starting to write a new WIP.
I haven’t had much time to plot it before since I had exams in March but but I did as much as I could in the last 10 days of March before beginning to write in April. There’s still a lot of plotting to do but I have the initial part cleared out, and so, I began writing. I’m trying to continue the plot and develop the characters while writing so as to get a better sense of what I’m doing.
I’m usually a plotter and so this approach is new, and a little frightening for me, but I’m really enjoying the journey so, hurray!
I have a notebook wherein I store all my details relating to writing and I decided to buy a new one for this specific project, so here’s a few pages I’d like to share with you that are a part of my planning.
I left the first page blank as I haven’t decided on a name for the book yet, but once I do, it will go there.
On the next page, I have my word count goal for the month.
On the next page, I’ve drawn a word count tracker of 30 boxes in which I will fill my word count for each day and colour out the days I am successful. Since my goal is 30,000, I need to write 1k words per days and on the days I do that goal , I will colour in the boxes in blue.
After that, I have a page for character names. I have separated the girls names on one page and bus on the other. I’m not too concerned with names at this moment and am using temporary names that I will eventually replace because I’m extremely indecisive and would end up doing it later anyway.
Hence, I’m not wasting much time on that. I just collected a few names that seemed attractive to me and I will continue to do so until I can settle on the final ones.
My next page is for world building. Since I’m writing a fantasy novel, this is an essential part that I’ve worked on for quite a while. After that, I have a basic plot linnet help me keep track.
I also have a page which has a rough map of the world in which this book is going to be set.
After that, I have a chapter wise plot line that is not quite fully decided yet ans I’m going to be editing it as I go.
Lastly, I have some character sketches for my main characters. I’m using these pages to develop their personalities and track their progress as I go so that I’m able to navigate them and make them as realistic as possible.
So, that’s how I’ve been planning my novel. What about you? Do you write? What is your planning process? Tell me in the comments below!
