This Mortal Coil

Hey everyone! I just read This Mortal Coil and I really loved it! It is one of the best science fiction novels I have ever read and I absolutely loved it! I really want to read the next part as soon as possible!

Genres: Science Fiction
Publication Date: November 7th 2017
Pages: 452 pages
Warnings: mild gore, cannabalism, medical procedure

When a lone soldier, Cole, arrives with news of Lachlan Agatta’s death, all hope seems lost for Catarina. Her father was the world’s leading geneticist, and humanity’s best hope of beating a devastating virus. Then, hidden beneath Cole’s genehacked enhancements she finds a message of hope: Lachlan created a vaccine.

Only she can find and decrypt it, if she can unravel the clues he left for her. The closer she gets, the more she finds herself at risk from Cartaxus, a shadowy organization with a stranglehold on the world’s genetic tech. But it’s too late to turn back.

There are three billion lives at stake, two people who can save them, and one final secret that Cat must unlock. A secret that will change everything.

The Mortal Coil is a book which will give you everything you want and still leave you wanting more. It broke me and now, even three days later, I’m not sure that I am ready to write a review. All I can say is that this book will surprise you and excite you and keeping it down will be almost impossible.

The plot progresses at a pace which shifts from fast to slow in a perfect blend which allows you to process information and also, doesn’t allow you to get bored. It keeps you hooked from the very first page and you don’t want the end to come.

There are so many twists and turns which you could never predict and oh my, the book at the beginning turns into something very different by the end but the author does so flawlessly, always keeping you on your toes, eager to learn more about what is happening.

The characracters are also all so wonderful! They have a background story which is described vividly and the growth is immense which makes them almost come to life.

Catarina, the heroine, is brave and strong and also so very compassionate which makes you fall for her. She has lived through a lot of hurt and betrayal but she comes out stronger and still believes that she can do good. She has been lied to and kidnappped and manipulated but somehow, she gets through it and still remains good at heart.

Cole, the love interest is another very complex character who seems to trust someone even after he has been tortured by them as it may do good for the world. He is so fragile yet so strong and you can’t help but fall in love with him.

The relationship between Cole and Catarina also develops almost perfectly. There are some incidents which can be interpreted as instalove but there’s also a deeper relationship which is forming which does so slowly ad gradually and the blend makes it realistic and I just ship them so much!

Overall this book is riddled with mystery and suspense and makes you want to know more all the time. It is impossible to put it down and I must say, I really do want to read the next book immediately.

Have you read this book yet? Did you like it? Are you planning to read it in the future? Tell me in the comments below!
