Hey everyone! It’s April and so, it’s time for BookEnding Spring hosted by Sam @FictionallySam and Clo@BookDragons. You can check out the announcement post over here.
I am delighted to be chosen as one of the hosts and this is my second prompt: Pre-scheduling and organising your Blog ft. Mood Blogging
PRE-SCHEDULING
I personally find that the best way to stay on top of things and to manage your blog properly is to pre-schedule posts.
Pre-scheduling helps me mainly for these three reasons:
- In case I have a blogging slump
- In case something comes up in real life
- In case something happens to my laptop
I am a perfectionist and I like to be prepared for every possible condition perfectly so pre-scheduling is the thing that soothes me and comforts me the most.
Mostly, I like to be scheduled a week ahead but as you all know, it is not easy to schedule that far ahead for me as I have many other things going on in my life such as school and college applications and SAT…
So, this is what I usually do when trying to pre-schedule things on my blog:
- Make a General Format earlier
- Followed by making the banner to give me a break
- Lastly, I fill in up slowly and steadily as and when I have time
So, I don’t get bored just sitting and writing the post but instead keep on switching things up to keep them interesting!
Another thing that helps me pre-schedule is having a calendar to manage what is being posted and when… Looking at everything in a single colour-coded spreadsheet really helps me decide what I need to work on and when.
ORGANISING MY BLOG
Honestly, the most important thing is to have a nicely organised blog so that it is easy to search for anything you’ve previously done and can view things based on certain characteristics.
This can be done using Categories and Tags.
Categories are broad and help tell the main theme of your posts. You can easily use these to search for many posts of the same types and are extremely useful!
Tags are smaller and less broad and talk about the more individualistic things in your posts! They could include the ratings for book reviews, etc.
Using these two together, it is easy to divide your posts and is easy to search for different types of posts using them. It is also especially beneficial for your viewers in regards to searching for different posts on your blog.
MOOD BLOGGING
I have to admit that I am a very moody person who is indecisive and is very often not satisfied with what she has already done.
I keep changing small things in my posts and hence, often get bored of writing new posts and go into a blogging slump.
On the other hand, there are days when I think I have perfected how to write a type of posts and I keep writing up many of those, enough to schedule them for 2 or 3 months ahead.
Hence, you can see the differences between my two extreme moos but if I just let nature run its course, it wouldn’t work out so well for me so, what do I do about it?
A. Take BREAKS From Writing Posts
I have seen that when I begin to write too many posts at a time, I get bored and feel unmotivated to write the next time, os I try to write a maximum of 2 posts in a day in case I have a lot of time but usually tend to restrict myself to 1.
B. Find a Great Community to Support You
I had a really major no-motivation period in November and December and was about to quit blogging but that was when I found an amazing bloggers Community, New Bloggers, which is a discord group creating by the amazing Avilanah and that is what got me back into blogging!
C. PRE-SCHEDULE
I love to have posts ready for each and every ‘in case’ situation and well, those posts really help when you are feeling unmotivated to write more. Seeing those posts published and seeing the amazing likes and comments makes you happy and wanting to write more.
So that is it for today. That’s how I manage and organize everything on my blog. It’s always great to know more tips so tell me how you deal with it in the comments down below! I’ll be waiting to hear from you all!
-Jayati xx
Aaaaah so many awesome tips here Jayati! And I’m so glad joining the discord group prevented you from quitting ❤ they've also saved me from quitting to, never underestimate the power of a support system and friends. Oof to mood blogging, I think I'm slightly a mood blogger, but honestly I try my best to plan ahead as much as possible to I'm not flailing later when I don't have any posts. Something I have is back up posts, so they just sit in my drafts and are basically all formatted and ready to be scheduled/posted which is a great fail safe for me, should I mess up or something happens and I need to fall back on that. My organisation soul adores this post ❤

Thank you so much Clo!
Ah, yes, I completely agree – Friends motivate you and support and help you keep moving forward!
and pre-scheduling definitely helps with mood blogging, Honestly, that;s the only reason I;m still surviving!
Back up posts are somethign I also try to have but often fail since I use them up wthotu even realising.
My one go to thing are book reviews I’ve posted on goodreads but not on my blog to give me a day or two to gather myself.

I love your tips! I realized how unorganized I am when I found myself unable to do this prompt, so I’ve stalked yours and will stalk others to figure out what tidbits I can add to help me, prescheduling is definitely something I find worth utilizing more!

I am so happy this method works! I do agree that pre-scheduling keeps everything nice and organized and it can help when a blogging slump is upon you, which with me is almost always :)) For me this method doesn’t always work, because it also gives me a false sense of “you got this, you can write this post tomorrow if you want to” which leads to me not having anything to publish for days or even weeks. Loved today’s prompts Jayati! Can’t wait for tomorrow!!

Ah, I get what you mean.
With me, it’s like you have so much ready so yoi can work ahead slowly and steadily and I just keep doing things and having more posts schduled so, I love this method!

pre-scheduling is definitely a huge help, when I can manage it 😅 but deadlines and dates don’t feel real to me until they’re imminent, so sometimes I know exactly what I want to post when but don’t end up writing it until the day of. (oops.) but I absolutely agree that color-coded calendars are super helpful! categorizing and tagging is a lot of fun for me though, because I LIVE for organization – as well as standardizing formats so that I can copy posts or use reusable blocks to just fill in details for each new post.
taking breaks is definitely necessary sometimes, and blogger friends are an awesome support system to help keep inspired! awesome tips, Jayati! 💕

Haha, I get what you mean tho
with me, its that even if I schedule I’ll just have to tweak it a bit before its published
YES! I love organising too, it makes me feel satisfied
and standardising formats is how I’m surviving… I have word documents with standard formats to reuse so I can work faster!
Thank you Isabelle ❤

Oh wow, I love what you did with this post !!
Mine will be up tomorrow, so quite delayed.. hah xD, but I only went over what I personally did if that makes sense ?
I agree the support makes everything ! I ALMOST stepped out of blogging without even really starting. what got my back? the community! looking at them planning posts and such felt just so nice.. and with their support I went ahead and picked my blog up again.. look at me now !! 😁
As someone who got a water dammage in my old mac, which made my keyboard messing up and typing becoming a core.. I kinda love how you put “in case something happens to my computer” ahaha.. Now All I have is new, from my mac to my phone so HOPEFULLY I shall be good for a while now XD

I feel like this post was coming for me personally, because I have a total of 1 post scheduled for this week, lol. I’ve been a mess recently and definitely uninspired to write posts. I feel like I have a ton of ideas, but none of them spark enough interest to write a whole post about them.
I’ve been working on this discussion post for over two weeks now and I still don’t know how to make it cohesive and not just a mess of words. I feel like I’ll take your advice and just leave it on my drafts and come back to it in the future. For now, though, I still have to figure out a schedule that works for me and that allows me to prepare posts in advance, because that truly is for the best.
Thanks for sharing, Jayati!

Haha, I get what you mean.
Sometimes, when this happens for me, I think I’m in over my head and take a break.
Usually talking to other people in the bookish community about the topic you’re writing about helps too…
Maybe this could work for you too!
