O.W.L.S Magical Readathon 2019

Hey everyone! I’m participating in the #OWLsReadathon2019 so I thought I would share with you guys what I’m planning on reading for that readathon!

OWLs Readathon 2019 is an awesome Harry Potter themed readathon coming up in April! It is hosted by the lovely Booktuber over at her channel @BookRoast.

You can see all the details about the readathon in her announcement video:

An Ordinary Wizarding Level (often abbreviated O.W.L.) is a standardised subject-specific test taken during Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry students’ fifth year, administrated by the Wizarding Examinations Authority. The score made by a student on a particular O.W.L. determines whether or not he or she will be allowed to continue taking that subject in subsequent school years, and whether they might be successful in obtaining a particular job.

According to this, G came up with prompts for each subject and in August, she holds the N.E.W.T.S. Readathon where we can only take up the subjects we passed our O.W.L.S. in and then, we can get a career! Ah, I am so excited!

THE PROMPTS AND THE BOOKS I AM CHOOSING FOR EACH

I have decided to try and achieve 7 O.W.L.S and here they are:

Ancient Runes – Retelling
Heartless by Marissa Meyers

Arithmancy – 2 or more authors
Gemina by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman

Defence Against The Dark Arts – Title from ‘R’
Ready Player One by Ernest Cline

History of Magic – Publish 10 or more years ago
The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

Muggle Studies – Contemporary
Everything Everything by Nicola Yoon

Potions – Sequel
Rich People Problems By Kevin Kwan

Transfiguration– Red Cover or Sprayed Pages
Kiss Quotient by Helen Hoang

CAREER OPTIONS

Well, you all won’t be surprised to hear how indecisive I am about this. I wanna aim high but then again, I have exams in April so I don’t want to disappoint myself, hence, I have chosen three possible careers that I like and would want to achieve.

Here they are:

HOGWARTS PROFESSOR

This is the one I want the most but it requires me to read 7 books so I am feeling a little dicey right now. But hey, If I am able to do it, it will be amazing! I have also not decided what subject I want to teach but I can always choose one of the ones listed above I August, so well, one crisis averted!

O.W.L.S. REQUIREMENTS:

  • 7 O.W.L.s
  • Compulsory: Defense Against The Dark Arts and the subject you want to teach.

JOURNALIST OR WRITER

This is my second career option, one I like a lot and honestly, the easiest one. I think this may just as well be the one I end up doing!

O.W.L.S. REQUIREMENTS:

  • 3 O.W.L.s
  • Compulsory: History of Magic and Muggle Studies

LIBRARIAN

This seems like such a great career choice too! But, the thing is, it is very specific so I am not sure if I am ready to take on it this April, but we’ll see!

O.W.L.S. REQUIREMENTS:

  • 5 O.W.L.s
  • Compulsory: Defense Against The Dark Arts, Transfiguration, Ancient Runes, Arithmancy and History of Magic

Are you taking part in this readathon too? Which books have you chosen? What career have you chosen? Tell me in the comments below.

  1. Ah this sounds like so much fun! I really enjoyed reading Ready Player One (I did have a couple of issues but still liked it enough) and I have a huge soft spot for The Great Gatsby, I hope you enjoy all your books and knock all seven out the park!

  2. Wow you’ve given this some thought. 😋 I heard about this readathon last year but too late. Maybe I can do it this year, the prompts look like a lot of fun! I need to think about this. 🙈

      1. I’m still thinking about it..🙈 but I probably won’t. I’m just getting over a slump at the moment and don’t want to reverse my progress with any kind of pressure or conditions on my reading. 🙂 I’m being very cautious about only picking up books that I’m really in the mood for and which make me want to keep reading.

      1. Haha, yes I hope we can both read enough! I was worried about choosing professor because I’m not sure how much free time I’ll have next month, but I’m going to do my best to read all seven. Thank you so much 🙂

  3. I also chose Professor! Gives a bit more flexibility and seven books shouldn’t be too much of a stretch for me this month. There was so many great careers to choose from!
