Illuminae

Now, this book is truly one of a kind… I have so much to say but let’s just start off with a quote.

“She is catalyst.
She is chaos.
I can see why he loves her.”

MY RATING: 4 STARS

THE BLURB:

This morning, Kady thought breaking up with Ezra was the hardest thing she’d have to do. This afternoon, her planet was invaded.

The year is 2575, and two rival megacorporations are at war over a planet that’s little more than an ice-covered speck at the edge of the universe. Too bad nobody thought to warn the people living on it. With enemy fire raining down on them, Kady and Ezra—who are barely even talking to each other—are forced to fight their way onto an evacuating fleet, with an enemy warship in hot pursuit.

But their problems are just getting started. A deadly plague has broken out and is mutating, with terrifying results; the fleet’s AI, which should be protecting them, may actually be their enemy; and nobody in charge will say what’s really going on. As Kady hacks into a tangled web of data to find the truth, it’s clear only one person can help her bring it all to light: the ex-boyfriend she swore she’d never speak to again.

BRIEFING NOTE: Told through a fascinating dossier of hacked documents—including emails, schematics, military files, IMs, medical reports, interviews, and more—Illuminae is the first book in a heart-stopping, high-octane trilogy about lives interrupted, the price of truth, and the courage of everyday heroes.

MY VIEWS:

So, this book is quite different from the average book.

It has a very different format and so, I found it a little hard to get into but when I did, oh god! I was trapped and I couldn’t escape.

This book was pretty fast-paced. It was thrilling and you were always on edge about what was going to happen next! I loved it. It kept me hooked and is the reason why I am now sitting with Gemina already in my hands.

The plot twist was so amazing and unexpected. It took me by surprise. I couldn’t believe what was happening and then, suddenly, we discover the truth which was kind of hinted at but I couldn’t comprehend it until the authors actually revealed it to us.

I felt so many emotions throughout the book and I mean, I’m still not quite over the ending. I need more, and I need it now. I could relate to the characters in some ways and even though we never really see things from their perspective, per se, I was so invested in them.

Also, this was such a slow burn romance. I mean, I was all like can you both please get together now? Thanks.

Ezra Mason was so sweet and such a romantic guy! He did so many things for Kady – like send her a rose, email her so many times and well, his cute remarks!

“You deserve every star in the galaxy laid out at your feet and a thousand diamonds in your hair. You deserve someone who’ll run with you as far and as fast as you want to. Holding your hand, not holding you back.”

This book was great and I recommend it to you all! I totally loved it.

  1. Yay! So glad you enjoyed it!
This is one of my favorite series of all times and I completely agree that it is a bit hard to get into the book due to its format. But once you do so, it’s magical!
I’ve been meaning to re-read Illuminae for a while now, and I actually thought about re-reading it before picking up Obsidio (the last one) this year. But I wouldn’t have enough time to a re-read of the trilogy, sadly. Hopefully, I’ll still be able to add it to one of my TBRs till the end of the year.
I miss reading about Ezra and Kady – they’re my favorites! Ezra was definitely the sweetest and also incredibly funny. Kady was super badass and I adore her personality. I even liked AIDAN – more in the “i love to hate you” way, but still. It was such an interesting and unique villain!
Illuminae really is a loooot of fun. Hope you enjoy the rest of the series as well! ❣️

  2. Really great post! And thanks for all the info. I’m not on the train yet and I have been avoiding spoilers like the plague, but your post gave the perfect amount of detail without giving too much away. =]

It surprised me so much and I was literally gaping at the book for a week seconds like ‘what the hell just happened?’

  3. I am so glad that you enjoyed Illuminae, it is one of my alltime favorite books!!! Ezra Mason is honestly my ideal beau and I adore him so much, but just you wait until you meet Nik in Gemina because WOO BOY he stole my heart!

I am currently, slowly, savoring Obsidio because I don’t want the series to end. Nothing like reading these books for the first time!

    1. Ohh, I am just 200 pages into Gemina and I don’t really know the characters well yet but I’m starting to really like them!
Now, I’m gonna be waiting to be swooshed away by Nik!

Haha, yeah. Sad that there’s only 3 books :/
