One of Us Is Lying

Hey everyone! You all cannot believe what an awesome book I just read! I can’t wait to share my views with you all, so here we go…

The Breakfast Club meets Pretty Little Liars, One of Us Is Lying is the story of what happens when five strangers walk into detention and only four walk out alive. Everyone is a suspect, and everyone has something to hide.

Pay close attention and you might solve this.

On Monday afternoon, five students at Bayview High walk into detention.
Bronwyn, the brain, is Yale-bound and never breaks a rule.
Addy, the beauty, is the picture-perfect homecoming princess.
Nate, the criminal, is already on probation for dealing.
Cooper, the athlete, is the all-star baseball pitcher.
And Simon, the outcast, is the creator of Bayview High’s notorious gossip app.

Only, Simon never makes it out of that classroom. Before the end of detention, Simon’s dead. And according to investigators, his death wasn’t an accident. On Monday, he died. But on Tuesday, he’d planned to post juicy reveals about all four of his high-profile classmates, which makes all four of them suspects in his murder. Or are they the perfect patsies for a killer who’s still on the loose?
Everyone has secrets, right? What really matters is how far you would go to protect them.

This book was all I expected and so much more! It featured a story surrounding the mysterious death murder of a high school boy during detention. The suspects? The four kids who were with him and in detention. Their motive? Preventing the publishing of the gossip the kid was going to publish about them the very next day.

Through this book, we are taken on an epic journey through the views of the four kids who were in detention with him.

The question always remains hanging in the middle: Who can we trust? Who is the one behind the murder?

The thrill is exciting and fascinating and it drives you completely crazy at times.

Also, I love how the characters are shown – they are real people. They are lovable but are not flawless. Through the book, you get to know them and fall for each of them in a different way. I like how the book brings together four people from totally different cliques and throws them together. I like how the author demonstrates the different type of people that exist and friends too. How some friends are true and will stick up for you while others just leave you to fend for yourselves.

The writing of the novel was pretty great as well and I loved how it all connected and flowed together. It pulled you in and fascinated you. The writing seemed like it had a force of itself that propelled you to read ahead. The book was emotional and sad enough and it also had scenes that made you laugh and some that made your heart flutter.

The only thing that made me reduce the one star was the fact that there were four P.O.V.s and I did not have enough time to connect with each character. Sure, they were necessary and bound the book together well, I just found it. little tedious to switch from one P.O.V to another.

It was a perfect combination of all that I look for in books and I will be waiting to read more books from this author. It was Karen M McManus’ debut novel and I can’t wait to see what she brings to the world next!

Anyways, what did you all think of my post? Have you all read this book? What did you people think about it? Tell me in the comments below. Will be waiting to hear from you all, it means a lot to me.

Peace out cuties ♥
