Favourite Quotes: Emery Lord

Hey guys. Here we go with another Favourite Quotes post. Today, it will be featuring Emery Lord, a brilliant author. Without ado:

“In friendship we are all debtors. We all owe each other for a thousand small kindnesses, for little moments of grace in the chaos.”

“Knowing what happens is different from knowing how it happens. And the getting there is the best part.”

“Even the constellations can see us now: we are seventeen and shattered and still dancing. We have messy, throbbing hearts, and we are stronger than anyone could ever know.”

“My dark days made me strong. Or maybe I already was strong, and they made me prove it.”

“If we could capture feelings like we capture pictures, none of us would ever leave our rooms. It would be so tempting to inhabit the good moments over and over again. But I don’t want to be the kind of person who lives backwardly, who memorializes moments before she’s finished living in them. So I plant my feet here on this hillside beside a boy who is undoing me, and I kiss him back like I mean it. And, God help me, with the sky wrapped around us in every direction, I do mean it.”

“You are the only person who can build emotional barriers, but you’re also the only person who can topple them. Other people can’t knock down the walls you’ve built, no matter how much they love you. You have to tear them down yourself because there’s something worth seeing on the other side.”

“Nothing, not even sadness could be greater than the sum of us.”

“He’s the ‘him’ in every sentence that really matters; he’s the ‘he’ in every song.”

“It takes a long time to learn someone. It takes a long time to see a person as a whole spectrum, from worst to best—from the mismanaged heartache that lands them in AA to the pancake dinners, from the hurtful things shouted in a dressing room to the huge-hearted strength that only a best friend can understand. Once you get there, it’s forever.”

“I drink coffee for the taste, of course, since caffeine is the last thing I need. Most of the things I do in life are for flavor, not necessity”

“I know it’s difficult to bare your heart, but it’s the least stupid thing in the world.”

“After all, the night sky is a mess of stars — a million fireflies crammed into infinity. But the mess becomes a map once you know how to use it.”

“In the moments when I feel like being truly happy is an impossible puzzle, one I’m not meant to figure out, if you have a best friend you can laugh with and a few good songs you’re more than halfway there.”

Anyways, what did you all think of my post? Have you read any of Rachel’s books? Do you plan to in the future? Tell me in the comments below. Will be waiting to hear from you all, it means a lot to me.

How to be more productive

Hey everyone! How has the day been for you all? Life is always pretty stressful and mine is no exception. Today, I am giving you all some tips as to ‘How to be more productive’. Sure, some tips may be way too overused and hyped but then that is so as they are useful and beneficial.

1. Shut down your television or Netflix or whatever you use. I mean, I know everyone tells you to do this, but the thing is:

The fewer the distractions, the more inclined that you will be to work. I have my mid-terms going on so I asked my mum to change the password of my Netflix account and as I can not access it, I have been more inclined to pick up my book to study. (I mean, the pressure is also a factor, but no Netflix plays a role as well)

2. Make up your mind. Decide what you want to do, no one else can really force you to work. I mean, they can make you sit at a desk but then it is up to you if you just sit there and stare or work! If you actually want to do something you will realise that you end up doing it much faster than something you did not want to!

3. Put on some soothing music. This really works for me. I can not work in silence so music, any kind works for me but I had found this perfect replica of the Ravenclaw common room on the net a little while ago and that is just the best thing to listen to while working for me. You can check that out here.

4. Clean up your desk, sit there and concentrate. The fewer the objects around you, the lesser you will get distracted. I mean, think about it, if there is a, let’s say, cute pen lying next to you, you will pick it up, start twirling it around and start thinking about where you got it, if it has some significance or whatever but if there is nothing, you are going to be more inclined to concentrate and keep studying so a clean desk is definitely the way to go!

And, that’s it, just 4 tips for you guys today! What do you all think? Do you agree with my tips? What would you all suggest me to do to be more productive? Tell me in the comments below.

Peace out cuties ♥

Favourite Quotes: Rachel Cohn

Hello everyone! Here I go, today’s author is Rachel Cohn who has some brilliant books with fantastic quotes that I love a lot so I am going to share them all with you. Hope you all enjoy!

“It’s bullshit to think of friendship and romance as being different. They’re not. They’re just variations of the same love. Variations of the same desire to be close.”

“The important people in our lives leave imprints. They may stay or go in the physical realm, but they are always there in your heart, because they helped form your heart. There’s no getting over that.”

“I want to believe there is a somebody out there for me. I want to believe that I exist to be there for that somebody.”

“I’ve always resented Hermione, because I wanted to be her so badly and she never seemed to appreciate as much as I thought she should that she got be her. She got to live at Hogwarts and be friends with Harry and kiss Ron, which was supposed to happen to me.”

“Well sure, who doesn’t need a boyfriend? but realistically, those exotic creatures are hard to come by. At least a quality one.”

“There are just lots of possibilities in the world…I need to keep my mind open for what could happen and not decide that the world is hopeless if what I want to happen doesn’t happen. Because something else great might happen in between.”

“I love snow for the same reason I love Christmas: It brings people together while time stands still. Cozy couples lazily meandered the streets and children trudged sleds and chased snowballs. No one seemed to be in a rush to experience anything other than the glory of the day, with each other, whenever and however it happened.”

“The universe doesn’t decide what’s right or not right. You do.”

“I’ve given him more mixed signals than a dyslexic Morse code operator.”

“When in doubt, ingest carbs.”

“Better to end this dream before it becomes a nightmare.”

“The best is when we all go at once, like an army of interrelated popcorn zombies who laugh the same laughs and gasp the same gasps and aren’t so germ-phobic with each other that we won’t share a ginormous Coke with one straw. Family is useful like that.”

“It’s over when you decide it’s over,” Norah says. “When you call it a night. The rest is just a matter of where the sun is in the sky. That has nothing to do with us.”

“A dream deferred is a dream denied.”

“No. No no no no. It is not easy. Things that matter are not easy. Feelings of happiness are easy. Happiness is not. Flirting is easy. Love is not. Saying you’re friends is easy. Being friends is not.”

“People come to New York to be different, but I go to Starbucks to be the same.”

“It broke the spell. It’s not that I stopped being happy. I was still inexplicably, utterly happy. But suddenly the happiness had implications.”

“In a field, I am the absence of field. In a crowd, I am the absence of crowd. In a dream, I am the absence of dream. But I don’t want to live as an absence. I move to keep things whole. Because sometimes I feel drunk on positivity. Sometimes I feel amazement at the tangle of words and lives, and I want to be a part of that tangle.”

Get ready to read me rant about one of the best books out there and exactly why I love it so much!

Princess Winter is admired by the Lunar people for her grace and kindness, and despite the scars that mark her face, her beauty is said to be even more breathtaking than that of her stepmother, Queen Levana.

Winter despises her stepmother, and knows Levana won’t approve of her feelings for her childhood friend–the handsome palace guard, Jacin. But Winter isn’t as weak as Levana believes her to be and she’s been undermining her stepmother’s wishes for years. Together with the cyborg mechanic, Cinder, and her allies, Winter might even have the power to launch a revolution and win a war that’s been raging for far too long.

Can Cinder, Scarlet, Cress, and Winter defeat Levana and find their happily ever afters? Fans will not want to miss this thrilling conclusion to Marissa Meyer’s national bestselling Lunar Chronicles series.

This book blew me away into the depths where I may never be found!

wwwssss copy.gif

Okay, so starting with the starting, I loved how we were gradually introduced to Winter and the concept of the Lunar disease. I fell in love with Winter on page 1 when she saved Scarlet and then we got to know how she refrains from using her ‘gift’ despite all the toll that it takes on her. Later we learn of why she doesn’t use it and my heart breaks a little more for her. Plus, she is so sweet and caring that it is endearing. Her heart breaks at the slightest of things and I hate how she is forced to manipulate Scarlet before Aimery can get a hold of her.

Then, we have Jacin.

“It’s not proper for seventeen-year-old princesses to be alone with young men who have questionable intentions.”
She laughed. “And what about young men who she’s been best friends with since she was barely old enough to walk?”
He shook his head. “Those are the worst.”

He’s way too cute and I love his selflessness and love for Winter. He does everything to protect her and while he does not show it in a conventional way, we can see it in his actions. He helps Winter escape and lies to his Queen, Levana about killing her, risking his own life as well as his parents. He also hides Cress in his room and shelters her because Winter requested him to.

Next up we have Scarlet. Oh, gods, she’s been through a lot yet she manages to be brave. She guides Winter and helps reach Maha Kesley’s cottage where they luckily find the others. Also, she accompanies Winter on her trip to find the Wolf-ish soldiers and help make them her army. Even when Winter contracts Letumosis due to Levana’s evil tactics, Scarlet picks her up without fear of catching the disease herself. When she is finally reunited with Wolf or Ze’ev, she sees that he has been even more biologically engineered and still, she accepts him and loves him.

Moving on to Cress… Well, she is luckily found by Winter and hid by Jacin but her journey is in no way easy. She has to stay hidden in Jacin’s room all day long with nothing at all to keep her occupied. She selflessly gives up running away for helping make Scarlet and Winter’s escape succeed. I love how generous Cress is.

Also, when she and Thorne break into the castle and she is separated from Thorne, she courageously keeps to her path despite being scared and helps the rebellion go on and succeed. Most of the successes would have been impossible without her.

“She was trapped. Thorne was captured. But they had been heroic.”

Plus, her and Thorne’s love story is the best. It is an unrequited love for her at first and I hate how she is suffering and as she begins to lose hope, Thorne reignites it but soon they are separated and then they have to do unthinkable things to one other, it’s just devastating, watching them but then, I am so elated for them at the end and their shy love is just amazing,

Then, we have Thorne, our dear Captain. He gets his Rampion! Yay! And while I think that we don’t see enough of him in this book, his presence is simply very calming, He can diffuse the tension and bring a smile to our faces at any point, no matter how stressful.

Let me give you all a few examples:

Wolf, agan “Did you see any rice in there? Maybe we could fill Cinder’s head with it.”

Everyone stared at him.

“You know, to…absorb the moisture, or something. Isn’t that a thing?”

“We’re not putting rice in my head.”

“Scarlet and I are going to start a missing-fingers club. We might let Cinder be an honorary member.”

“Iko, did we break into that guardhouse and broadcast Cinder’s message across all of Luna?”
“Yes, Captain.”
“And, Scarlet, did I rescue you and Wolf when the entire city of Paris was under siege?”
She raised an eyebrow at him. “Actually, I’m pretty sure Cinder-”
“Yes, I did.”

More than enough proof, I’d say.

Wolf, again, found a way into my heart. How he loved Scarlet and how painful their separation was…

“It’s just like the one Scarlet had.” He flipped the gun in his palms, running his thumbs along the barrel. “She shot me in the arm once.”

This confession was said with as much tenderness as if Scarlet had given him a bouquet of wildflowers rather than a bullet wound.

We did not get to see much of him either since he was captured by Levana but I hated what they did to his body…..

Going over to discuss the evil Queen Levana. I loved her character but hated her in reality. She is the evilest person I have ever met and her manipulations drive me crazy but her plans and intentions are very well crafted. She is heartless and I love exactly how we are shown that. She hates her stepdaughter and goes to unthinkable depths to do just that. She also gets Jacin, who loves Winter to kill Winter (he doesn’t do it so whatever) which is pure evil.

I love how we are shown her beneath the glamour and how she succumbs at the end, it makes her more humane.

Next up is Kai, Emperor Kaito of the Eastern Commonwealth. He too is selfless in his own way. He would die just to ensure that the Earth is safe from the rule of the malevolent lunar queen. I can not help but admire him and how much faith he has in Cinder and how he just waits for her. I also love just how ready he is to help Cress to make their rebellion succeed.

Last but not least we have our own saviour, Cinder! she is brave and awesome and inspiring and motivating. She appeals to the people and wins their hearts. I love the relationship she has with every member of the Rampion crew. I love how she does not give up when half of her brain was not working when her cybernetic part was dysfunctional. Plus, she indeed is savage.

I mean, I don’t think I really need to tell you how awesome Cinder is, if you have come so far in the series then you should already know.

I would like to end it on the note that this was a character-driven novel with a bunch of amazing characters that I fell in love pretty soon and hence, this novel was an extremely enjoyable read for me. 🙂

Anyways, what did you all think of my post? Have you all read this book? What did you people think about it? Tell me in the comments below. Will be waiting to hear from you all, it means a lot to me.

Naughty or Nice Book Tag

Hey, my dear lovely readers! I was tagged by the wonderful Michaela @JourneyintoBooks to do the Naughty or Nice Book Tag. Be sure to check out her awesome blog 🙂

Now, on to the actual tag.

Received an ARC and not reviewed it

No. I am still reading an ARC so I have technically not reviewed it yet but I fully plan to once I am done reading it! Plus, I have only ever received 3 ARCs so it is not as if I have been overloaded with the burden.

Have less than 60% feedback rating on Netgalley

No. I am not on Netgalley. I mean, I had made an account and requested some books but I never received them, yadda yadda yadda, here we are.

Rated a book on Goodreads and promised a full review was to come on your blog (and never did)

Nah. I never promise things I can not do. I mean, if I say that a full review was coming, it was probably already written and scheduled, I never let people think that I am something I really am not or will do something I have no intention of doing.

Folded down the page of a book aka dog-eared a page.

Yes. I mean, if I am on the bus and I need to leave urgently or something, I occasionally dog-ear a page though I prefer not to, I’d rather try to remember the page number.

Accidentally spilt on a book

Yes. I dropped coffee on my copy of the Assassin’s Blade. Oops? I try to be careful now, so I hope that it never happens again…

DNF a book this year

Yes. I have DNFed one book this year since I was not at all into it, sad, but necessary.

Bought a book purely because it was pretty with no intention of reading it

No. I mean, sure, the beautiful cover plays a role but I have a limited budget so I only buy books I know that I will read in the near future otherwise, BYE-BYE!

Read whilst you were meant to be doing something else

Yes. What bookworm hasn’t done that? I barely manage to study or complete my work since I am either reading, writing blog posts or watching Netflix.

Skim read a book

Yeah. I skim out a lot of boring parts since I have a short attention span. This also happens at the exciting parts but then, I mostly go back to reread it when the mystery has been solved.

Completely missed your Goodreads goal

No. I always make it!

Borrowed a book and not returned it

No. I don’t really borrow books since I don’t have a good library near me. My school’s library is not very good either, so unlucky me!

Broke a book buying ban

Duh. Why would I even want to instil a book buying ban upon myself> Why’d I do such an injustice?

Started a review, left it for ages, then forgot what the book was about

Yes. I mean, I just get busy and then one fine day I remember that I had an incomplete review to finish, so I do complete it but it just turns out bad, like really bad. It is bad enough that I can gauge myself with a dirty cloth, but then again, I have to review the damn cook, don’t I?

Wrote in a book you were reading

Yes. I barely ever do this but I won’t deny that there have been occasions that my book has been filled with pencil marks. Never a pen though, but I do use highlighters to highlight a cute/ important quote.

Finished a book and not added it to your Goodreads

No. I always add the books because it helps me track my progress and also remember which books are still left to be reviewed.

That’s it.

I got 7 No’s and 8 Yes’s, that’s pretty close so neither Naughty nor Nice, I guess…

Anyways, what did you all think of my post? Tell me in the comments below. Will be waiting to hear from you all, it means a lot to me.

Favourite Quotes: Sandhya Menon

Hey, everyone! I am back with favourite quotes post and I guess these favourite quotes posts are becoming a favourite of mine since they are so easy to write and I love picking favourite quotes from all these great authors out there!

Today,  I can’t wait to share with you all some brilliant quotes by Sandhya Menon, the writer of When Dimple met Rishi and From Twinkle, with love. Her books are amazeballs and you should all read them. To convince you, here are some awesome quotes from her even more awesome books to give you all a taste of her writing!

“This is our life. We get to decide the rules. We get to say what goes and what stays, what matters and what doesn’t.”

“But that was Rishi… he was like a pop song you thought you couldn’t stand, but found yourself humming in the shower anyway.”

“It was his damn fool heart. Ever optimistic, always looking for a sliver of sunshine in a sky clotted with thunderclouds.”

“There was something about people who were that secure; they made you feel better about yourself, like they accepted you for everything you were, imperfections and all.”

“He already knew the first time he saw Dimple’s picture that their story would become a sort of legend”

“I feel like I need to speak out, because if no one speaks out, if no one says, This is me, this is what I believe in, and this is why I’m different, and this is why that’s okay, then what’s the point? What’s the point of living in this beautiful, great melting pot where everyone can dare to be anything they want to be?”

“You. Are. Beautiful. Lajawab. My only worry is that I might not be able to do you justice.”

“It was sort of nice that she didn’t need to explain the hovering, how it really came from a place of love. Rishi got that this was just what moms and dads did in their world. Dimple”

“Geeks are smart and talented and passionate. I don’t think that’s a bad thing.”

“Sahil: Sometimes I worry I don’t know who I really am. Sometimes I’m afraid nothing I do will ever be enough to set me apart.”

“She’d say this for him: He had no guile.”

“And they’re still so intricately connected to us. We have their names, their rituals, their traditions. Their dreams sit behind our eyelids. I think it’s beautiful.

“Twinkle: “When I’m with you, I feel I can breathe.”

“Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same.”

Anyways, what did you all think of my post? Have you read any of Sandhya’s books? Do you plan to in the future? Tell me in the comments below. Will be waiting to hear from you all, it means a lot to me.

Importance of best friends in YA and why they need more representation

Hey everyone! How have you all been doing? So, we all have a BFF in real life, or at least an extremely close friend though we may not assign that particular title to them. There are many ‘BFFs’ in YAs too and I am going to be discussing more of them in depth.

Join in to find out my views.

  1. Supportive. I mean, there is no one like a friend to pick you up when you are down and I have seen that in many YA books that the so-called BFF becomes non-existent after a few chapters when the girl meets the love interest. I mean, come on, in real life when such a thing happens girls tend to rely more on their friends and discuss a lot with their friends about their relationship.
  2. Joking around. So, all of us spend a huge time of our day at school and we need to have someone to spend it with, When we find someone new, we just do not leave the old person behind. So, I don’t get how the BFF disappears and if she does, where does she go?
  3. Sharing confidential information. Okay, the girl had a life even before the guy showed up and decided that he liked her and wanted her. All of the life before that does not get thrown into the bin, okay? She might have had some secrets, or some things that had to attend to and the one person that plays the biggest part in keeping that earlier life there and alive and something the girl can return to is the BFF! For God’s sake, one won’t give up everything for someone the just met!
  4. Existence. The BFF exists and does not disappear. Also, the MC was also her BFF’s BFF so she ha to support her friend and n=be there for her! Just because she found a guy, she will not leave that friend of hers who has been there for her through thick and thin to rot in hell!

Did you guys see all of that? THAT is friendship and Friendship just can’t go away like that.

What do you all think? Do you agree with me or do you think that there is adequate representation? Who are some of your favourite YA BFFs? Tell me in the comments below.

Open Road Summer

After breaking up with her bad-news boyfriend, Reagan O’Neill is ready to leave her rebellious ways behind. . . and her best friend, country superstar Lilah Montgomery, is nursing a broken heart of her own.

Fortunately, Lilah’s 24-city tour is about to kick off, offering a perfect opportunity for a girls-only summer of break-up ballads and healing hearts. But when Matt Finch joins the tour as its opening act, his boy-next-door charm proves difficult for Reagan to resist, despite her vow to live a drama-free existence.

This summer, Reagan and Lilah will navigate the ups and downs of fame and friendship as they come to see that giving your heart to the right person is always a risk worth taking.

A fresh new voice in contemporary romance, Emery Lord’s gorgeous writing hits all the right notes.

Can I just say that I am confused about this book? I am it was cute and endearing and romantic so it deserves 4 stars but there was a thing that was seriously wrong in it! Hence, I have decided to bring it down to a 3.

Reagan seemed like a good character, one who had made mistakes and had a long past behind her but had a good heart within. It is just I did not like her attitude towards the world- hate and destroy. I mean, it will get you o where and I know that each character has to have their flaws but I think that Emery Lord took this one over the top with how Reagan looked at the world with disdain- as if everyone was bad and no one could ever do something genuinely good.

loved her friendship with Dee i.e.  4 DAZZLING STARS  Montgomery and while Reagan did feel a bit selfish at sometimes I think that it was just human nature. Reagan loved Dee and would be there for her and I loved how they would not let any fight separate them and how they cared for each other. It was beautiful!

I also love how Reagan describes their friendship. It just touched a part of my heart.

Nextly, Matt Finch. While he was a cliché rock star, he had qualities that made him unique and stand out. I fell in love with him slowly and the way he treated Reagan was nothing short of perfect so no problems here. He’s just as lovely as a blooming flower.

Corinne was a true bitch by how she kissed Matt, who was supposed to be her BFF when she knew that he was dating Reagan and he really liked her but she does redeem herself by showing up at Reagan’s house and justifying everything. It made her less hate-able and I saw her less as the villain after that but more as a person who was in pain and made a terrible mistake.

Lastly, I loved how Matt drove for 6 hours straight to win Reagan back. It showed how true his love for her was and how he sang to her from her window to make a point and did all he could just so he could be with her.

All in all, this book was good and worth a shot.

Anyways, what did you all think of my post? Have you all read this book? What did you people think about it? Tell me in the comments below. Will be waiting to hear from you all, it means a lot to me.

Top 5 Fantasy

Hey everyone! It is time for another Top 5 Tuesday!  Top 5 Tuesday is a weekly meme that the lovely Shanah @Bionic Bookworm does. If you are interested in doing any of her topics on your blog she welcomes it! Today’s topic is the Top 5 Fantasy novels. There’s a bucket load of them to choose from and then, narrowing down my choices might as well be impossible but let’s try to do this!

Like, does this even need to be justified? I mean, Harry Potter is amazing and the best thing out there and life wouldn’t be possible without it. Plus, I have written enough posts about it and mentioned it way too many times for it to be considered sane to conclude that I love it as much as I love my own self.

Ah, this book is one of the best and funniest novels out there. The concept is endearing and the writing is awesome. Rick Riordan has done an excellent job introducing us and making us fall in love with a purely fictional world based on myths.

I mean, again this is one series/ group of series that I have overly mentioned and can not refrain from talking about and surely belongs on this list. This series has so many twists and turns and it touches my heart and I am attached to all its characters now.

I’ve been talking about this book like crazy as well. Damn, I just finished reading this series and I am so glad that I did cause, that information and cuteness needed to be restored in my brain and yeah, now I need to get you all to love it like me and now I need to read Renegades!

Does this series need any explanation either? The new world, something so unexpected and different. Something unique and defying all the clichés, something that keeps me hooked, of course, it needs to be up here, on this list.

This series, again by Sarah J. Maas is amazing. With twists and turns and evil masterminds, I forget to sleep when I am reading these books. I am glad that I found this series and I cannot wait for this series’ finale, Kingdom of Ashes to come out in October, it is long overdue and I cannot wait to see how everything wraps up and where everyone end up!

The Birthday Book Tag

Hey, everyone! I am finally turning 16 today! OMG, I am so excited. So, I thought of doing a book tag and I saw this and I was like, damn, I need to do this so here I am doing the Birthday Tag!

Count your birthday along your bookshelf and then subtract your birth month. What book does it land on?

It is 16th September, so 16-9 = 5. The book is Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. It is a lovely book and one of my favourites! Cath+Levi=OTP. You should all read it at any cost.

CATH and WREN from FANGIRL. They have the best sibling relationship I have ever read. They fight, but they always make up. I love them.

If You Could Spend Your Birthday With Any Fictional Character Who Would It Be and Why?

Okay, so this is a very hard decision since there are so many fictional characters that I love but I guess that I’d want to be happy and laughing on my bday so it would have to be either the Weasley twins or Captain Carswell Thorne since they would be able to make me laugh and smile and the day would just go by in a blur!

Find A Book That Takes Place In The Season You Were Born In

September is fall, but I don’t know any book that takes place in fall. I guess I will just have to find a book then. On to the next one for now.

Find A Book That Is The Color of Your Birthstone

My birthstone is Sapphire, which is blue.
This one is pretty easy, so I go with:

Is there a series with the same number of books as your age? If so what is it?

I don’t really know but then 16 books would be a huge number of books! god, that author must have written a lot and expanded a lot on that one series and the readers must have spent such a lot of time on that one book!

Pick a Book Set in a Time Period, Fictional World or Country You’d Like to Have Been Born In

Harry Potter, obviously. I mean, why would anyone choose anything or anyplace else? The wonderful palace called Hogwarts where we would learn. The pretty little village of Hogsmeade where we could roam and Diagon Alley, where we could shop! It would be so awesome!

Anyways, what did you all think of my post? Tell me in the comments below. Will be waiting to hear from you all, it means a lot to me.
