Bibliophile’s Needs

Saturday is time for another bookish discussion! As Book lovers, there are many things we want. Here is a compilation of stuff that I need to have by my side when I am reading:

  • Coffee: Of course, nothing better than freshly brewed coffee to keep you awake while you finish the next top book of the year! Or even if it is the worst you’ve read so far, nothing like coffee to help you stay awake as you get through it.

Image result for coffee

  • Bookmarks: Beautiful ones, of course. Two, so that you have one handy. And, yes, they are needed all the time as you never know when someone will interrupt you. Nothing better than a pretty little bookmark to mark your progress.

  • Pillows: Keep you comfortable, don’t they? Nothing better than pillows to cuddle with, be it a sad book or a romantic one.  They serve a purpose every time and you can’t go wrong with them.
  • Isolated spot: Who likes to be disturbed when they are reading? No one. Hence, an isolated place(maybe even your own room) where no one comes too often, is the best place to sit and read!
  • Chocolates or candies:  Anything sweet, actually. Nothing like chocolate to bring up your spirits and to help you get through d\stressful, agonizing parts. After all, the opposite of ‘stressed’ is ‘desserts’.

What did you think of my choices? What are your requirement? Tell me in the comments below.

What is Mystery Blogger Award?
“This is an award for amazing bloggers with indigenous posts. Their blog not only captivates; it inspires and motivates. They are one of the best out there, and they deserve every recognition they get. This award is also for bloggers who find fun and inspiration in blogging and they do it with so much love and passion.” – Okoto Enigma

  • Thank whoever nominated you and include a link to their blog
  • Tell your readers three things about yourself
  • Nominate 10-20 (I chose 5) bloggers you feel deserve the award
  • Answer the questions from the person who nominated you
  • Ask your nominees 5 questions of your choice, with one weird or funny one

  1. I love Astronomy, even though I know pretty much nothing, it fascinates me to no end.
  2. I hate messaging people and would rather e-mail them. It has some sort of secrecy and old-fashioned thing to it that I like a lot.
  3. I am kinda obsessed with historical fiction. Although I do not read much of it, I find it mesmerizing.

Rose’s Questions and My Answers:

1. What’s your current favourite TV show?

Riverdale or Thirteen Reasons Why. I love both of them and can’t wait for their third seasons to come out!

2. Favourite quote?

You expect me to choose one? It’s like asking a mother to pick a favourite child or asking a bookworm to pick a favourite book. Anyways, one of my favourites is:

“One could not count the moons that shimmer on her roofs,
Or the thousand splendid suns that hide behind her walls.”

– Khaled Hosseini, A Thousand Splendid Suns

3. How do you like to arrange your books on your shelves?

Usually by authors, starting with my favourites on top. Sometimes, I like to switch things up and place them according to colours.

 4. Have you ever been to an author’s signing or to a book convention?

Not really, although my school did take me to an author discussion last year. I did not know any of the authors, so it was sad.

5.What’s one book you bought because of its cover?

One? Well that is easy since there are so many. To name a few:

My Nominees:

Priyasha @Books and Co.

Kay @Hammock of Books

Shanah @Bionic Bookworm

Kaira @The Classy Classics

My Questions:

1. If you could meet any one, dead or alive, who would it be? Why?

2. If you had one million dollars, how would you spend it?

3. Share the best creative idea you had since you started blogging.

4. If you could go back in time and change one decision you’ve made in your life, what would it be and why?

5. What is your all-time favorite food?

Summer Days and Summer Nights: Part 1

It is time for another book review! Since this book is insanely long and has 12 short stories, I have decided to divide its review into 3 parts with 4 short stories in each review 🙂

-By Leigh Bardugo

RATING: 8/10

Let me start by telling you how much I loved it. Fantasy is a genre that I love with all my heart and this story did not disappoint at all. Eli Cuddy was fascinating and appealing and I started to love him. I also loved the twist of how he stayed in the water for 9 months and walked the Earth for 3. I  absolutely loved the ending too, but I couldn’t really get into it at the very start. Once I did, I found it great but maybe if the commencement was more appealing I would have liked it better.

– By Nina LaCour

RATING: 9/10

loved this one. It was just so cute. Mimi and Flora are such unique and great names, I have never heard them before! Also, I loved their background stories. A lot of problems was shown in Flora’s life and I loved how the story progresses. It is realistic and not some kind of funny imagination! I loved how I could start to love Flora before I could get attached to Mimi. Although I do not understand how Blake, Flora’s ex-boyfriend was suddenly not there. He was not even mentioned which made it quite weird. But, overall it was great and I liked it a lot!

-By Libba Bray

RATING: 5/10

This one just didn’t do it for me. I love horror movies but I think that reading horror stuff doesn’t sit well with me. The writing was good but somehow I couldn’t get into it too well and ended up reading just the dialogues at a few points. On the other hand, I thought that the plot was cool and that the romance between Dani and Kevin was cute. I loved how I could relate to the characters as they had a background story. Although I wanted to give the book a bit higher rating, I couldn’t bring myself to do it as I usually love reading descriptions and the ones in this one weren’t for me.

4. Sick Pleasure

-By Francesca Lia Block

RATING: 7/10

This one has got me confused. I liked the starting, how it seemed realistic and something I could connect to or see myself doing- dancing with my friends and falling in love. I also liked the way that the author used Letters as names, it was unique. What I didn’t like was how the story ended. I am a sucker for happy endings but can usually settle for bad ones. This one, however, just didn’t do it for me. I wanted to see I’s future and see her really fall in love and stay there. However, as I liked most of it, this one gets a higher rating.

That is it for now! I’ll be back soon after having read the next 4! Can’t say that I am not excited to read ahead now.

Have you read this book? What did you think about it? Which is your favourite short story? Tell me in the comments below!

The Ultimate Book Tag

I was tagged by Jess and Teagan @FictionNoChaser to do this tag. If you don’t follow them already, go check out their awesome blog! As you all know, I don’t usually post on Wednesdays but since I was lagging behind on tags, I decided to post today too!

1. Do you get sick while reading in the car?

Not really, but if I read for too long at once, then I do.

2. Which author’s writing style is completely unique to you and why?

William Shakespeare, hands down. Being the most celebrated author, his writing is different from all others. Besides he is one of the only historic writers I’ve ever read, so yeah, those ages were different and the writing style was too.

3. Harry Potter Series or the Twilight Saga? Give 3 points to defend your answer.

Harry Potter, definitely. I’d sell my soul before I chose Twilight.

  1. Edward Cullen is a creep. Who stares at a girl when she is sleeping?
  2. Bella is crazy and confused and shitty.
  3. The love triangle is horrible and not even well-written.

4. Do you carry a book bag? If so, what is in it (besides books…)?

Nah, I just carry a book in my hand or leave it in the car.

5. Do you smell your books?

Sometimes, well I love the smell of new books.

6. Books with or without little illustrations?

I am fine with the illustrations as long as they match the atmosphere of the book and don’t distract me. Also, as long as there are not too many.

7. What book did you love while reading but discovered later it wasn’t quality writing?

Probably Hexhall. I had read it ages ago but now when I picked it up again so i could continue the series, I couldn’t get into it. I found it childish and stupid.

8. Do you have any funny stories involving books from your childhood? Please share!

Can’t remember any over the top of my head.

9. What is the thinnest book on your shelf?

Kindred Spirits by Rainbow Rowell.

10. What is the thickest book on your shelf?

I have many thick books but the thickest book is probably Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, since it’s just that long, but I’d also love to give some recognition to other titles that are just as long- Winter by Marissa Meyer, Lord of Shadows and City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare. They are also really long books, but they’re not as thick as Harry Potter.

11. Do you write as well as read? Do you see yourself in the future as being an author?

Yes, I love to write. It helps reduce my anxiousness and helps me not overthink too much. I’d love to be an author but it is quite hard. If I get an oppurtunity in the future, I’d definitely take it.

12. When did you get into reading?

I always loved reading but I got majorly invested in it when I was 10 or 11.

13. What is your favourite classic book?

The Merchant of venice. Mostly because I had to do it over and again 2 years straight for school and it has so many memories and now I just love it.

14. In school what was your best subject?

Either Mathematics or English. I love both.

15. If you were given a book as a present that you had read before and hated…what would you do?

Thank the person and accept the present. It is not their fault that they did not know that I hated the book.

16. What is a lesser known series that you know of that is similar to Harry Potter or the Hunger Games?

I don’t know if it is leser known, I don’t think so at least but Carry On is quite similar to HP while The Maze Runners is similar to The Hunger Games.

17. What is a bad habit you always do (besides rambling) while filming?

Not sure this applies to me.

18. What is your favorite word?

Always ever since I read Harry Potter but I have always been a bit partial to exceptional.

19. Are you a nerd, dork, or dweeb? Or all of the above?

A nerd.

20. Vampires or Fairies? Why?

Fairies all the way. I just don’t like vampires much and Fae are nice. P.S. Mostly because I love Rowan and Rhys.

21. Shapeshifters or Angels? Why?

Angels. I find them fascinating.

22. Spirits or Werewolves? Why?

Werewolves, I am crazy about them. Plus, I have not read much about spirits.

23. Zombies or Vampires?

None. I find both quite creepy and undead but if I had to choose- Vampires.

24. Love Triangle or Forbidden Love?

Forbidden love all the way. Love triangles have gotten boring but I can enjoy a well-written one.

25. AND FINALLY: Full on romance books or action-packed with a few love scenes mixed in?

A bit of both? I can not handle a lot of either very well.

I Tag

YOU! If you haven’t done it and find it fascinating, please do it and link back to me so I can see your answers. I don’t really want to burden anyone with so many tags to do 🙂

Harry Potter Bucket List

I am participating in the Harry Potter anniversary week held by Margaret @WeirdZeal! It is celebrating 21 years of Harry Potter so how could I not join in? Today was wildcard day and the lovely Luana @BookStorm made this Tag to do. As what I had in mind fits very well with what she had, I am doing it!

Diagon Alley from the Prisoner of Azkaban

Okay, to start this off! You’re at Diagon Alley before your Hogwarts year… What 5 stores do you want to visit the most?

Of course I need to go to Ollivanders to get my wand! Then, I would go get a pet(owl) from Eeylop’s Owl Emporium. My next stop would be Flourish and Blott’s so I could get the books, followed by Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes. Lastly, I would love to go to Gringotts so I could get some money! (Although, that would have to be my first stop, technically)

The school year’s starting! What 5 subjects are you dying to take?

5? Isn’t that too less? But, well, I am dying to take Defense Against The Dark Arts, I wonder who the professor would be… Then, Transfiguration with Professor McGonagall is a must! I’d love to take Charms, Potions and Flying classes too! I would also love to give a special mention to the Astronomy class here, it would be great!

Harry casts his Patronus while in disguise at the Minstry.

What are the top 5 spells you want to learn?

Accio, surely! I’d love to learn how to conjure a Patronus too, and Expelliarmus so I can defend myself in a duel. Avada Kedavra, cause I’m evil that way and to end it, I would love to learn Incendio.

What magical foods would you love to try?

Everything? Anything? After having visited Harry Potter Studios, I am in love with Butterbeer and want to have it again! Also, I have a sweet tooth, so I’d love to have something sweet such as Chocolate frogs and Cauldron Cakes

Image result for hogwarts library

What Hogwarts textbooks would you like to read/have access to?

Okay, so I am not sticking to the topic with this and am going for all the books in the restricted section! I’d do anything to get my hands on them. Plus, I’d love to read Hogwarts: A History. Also, I’d love the Advanced Potions copy with all the comments by the Half-Blood Prince aka Snape.

Image result for thestrals

What 5 magical creatures do you most want to see?

There are so many to choose from! First of all, I’d love to see Thestrals, but that requirement, not possible. Then, I’d love to see Centaurs and Unicorns. Dragons! And of course, Hippogriffs.

Image result for the burrow

What 5 magical places do you want to visit the most?

Apart from Hogwarts and Diagon Alley (I mean… of course…), I’d like to go to Hogsmeade, visit The Burrow and The Malfoy Manor. Go spend some time at Ilverymony and Beauxbaton too, of course.

What 5 parties or celebrations would you like to attend?

The Halloween Party at Hogwarts, surely. Attend a Quidditch Match- the Finals, surely. Dance at The Yule Ball! That’d be a dream come true and of course, attend a winning the house cup party. Also, I’d love to attend a meeting of the Dumbledore Army and one of the Order of the Phoenix too. I know this is exceeding the limit but I’d also like to attend a meeting of the Slug Club.

And lastly… What 5 magical things do you want to do the most?

Apparate! Cast spells and charms. Fly on a broomstick, I’m waiting for that to happen, it may be any day now. Also, I’d love to play Quidditch!

Now, what I was planning to do. It is quite similar to what is above and can serve as an addition of a kind.

First thing you’d do when you’d reach Hogwarts?

Go to my House Tower and discover it!

What rule do you think you will break first?

The one that states that the Restricted Section of the Library is out of bounds, surely.

Where would you spend most of your time?

In the common room of my house!

Which DADA professor do you want(dead or alive) to teach you?

Remus Lupin, there is no doubt about it!

Which class would be your first option to take on in your Third Year?

Study of Ancient Runes or Care of Magical Creatures

Favourite Quotes: ACOMAF

Another Monday, another Favourite Quotes Day! This time it is featuring book A Court Of Mist And Fury by Sarah J Maas, again, one of my favourites! I posted my favourite quotes from A Court of Thorns and Roses last week, you can check it out here.  There are so many quotes in there that I just can not wait to share with all of you. Without further ado, let us proceed!

“What a pretty little wedding,” Rhysand said, stuffing his hands into his pockets.

“Tamlin isn’t your keeper, and you know it.”
“I’m his subject, and he’s my High Lord-”
“You are no one’s subject.”

“I’ll say this once – and only once. You can be a pawn, be someone’s reward, and spend the rest of your immortal life bowing and scraping and pretending you’re less than him, than Ianthe, than any of us. If you want to pick that road, then fine. A shame, but it’s your choice. But I know you – more than you realize, I think – and I don’t believe for one damn minute that you’re remotely fine with being a pretty trophy for someone who sat on his ass for nearly fifty years then sat on his ass while you were shredded apart.”

“Did you think his shield would keep us from you? Rhys shattered it with half a thought.”

“You’re free,” Mor said. “You’re free.” Not safe. Not protected. Free.

“I love my people and my family. Do not think I wouldn’t become a monster to keep them protected.”

Bow, he’d once ordered Tamlin. And now here he was, on his knees before me. His eyes glinted as if he remembered it, too.

“So, I’m your huntress and thief?”
“You are my salvation, Feyre.”

I’d learn to love it, I realized. The flying.

“I’m thinking it would be very easy to love you. And even easier to call you my friend.”

“The issue isn’t whether he loved you, it’s how much. Too much. Love can be a poison.”

The court of Dreams. The people who knew that there was a price, and one worth paying for that dream The bastard-born warriors, the Illyrian half-breed, the monster trapped in a beautiful body, the dreamer born into a court of nightmares… And the Huntress with an artist’s soul.

“To the people who look at the stars and wish, Rhys.”

“To the starts who listen – and the dreams that are answered.”

“Many atrocities have been done in the names of the greater good.”

“Amren and Mor told me that the span of an Illyrian male’s wings says a lot about the size of … other parts.”
“Did they now?”
“They also said Azriel’s wings are the biggest.”
“When we return home, let’s get out the measuring stick, shall we?”

“You don’t think I know how the stories get written – how this story will be written?” Rhys put his hands on his chest, his face more open, more anguished than I’d seen it. “I am the dark lord who stole away the bride of spring. I am a demon, and a nightmare, and I will meet a bad end. He is the golden prince – the hero who will get to keep you as his reward for not dying of stupidity and arrogance.”

“I forgot to tell him that the villain is usually the person who locks up the maiden and throws away the key. He was the one who let me out.”

“Did you think I would go with him?”
“I heard every word between you. I knew you could take care of yourself, and yet…And yet I found myself deciding that if you took his hand, I would find a way to live with it. It would be your choice.”
“And if he grabbed me?”
“Then I would have torn apart the world to get you back.”

“I’d wake up with your scent in my nose and it would haunt me all day, every step.”

“And then – then I learned your name. Hearing you say it … it was like an answer to a question I’d been asking myself for five hundred years.”

“I knew that you were my mate, and you were in love with another male, and had destroyed yourself to save him, and that… that I didn’t care. If you were going to die, I was going to die with you.”

His eyes were like the stars I’d painted once, long ago.

And so, Tamlin unwittingly let the High Lady of the Night Court into the heart of his territory.

That is it. This book is one of my favourites and these are all my favourite quotes from it. I hope you enjoyed! 🙂

Tell me what your favourite quote is in the comments below.
